Exposition

In Exposition, a collection of antique musical automata in the Swiss alps appear to speak with new voices about dishonesty, concealed mechanisms, unexpected outcomes and complex systems. The film is made with Fredy’s Mechanisches Musikmuseum, a private collection of automata which has been missing a maintenance engineer since the museum’s owner died in 2012.

Now apparently left to malfunction, the automata recite a firsthand account of working in the global anti-corruption industry. Through this dialogue, the automata’s mimicry, and the material nature of the film itself, a series of hidden processes are disclosed to the viewer.
